About Town in Morong

We came a couple of days earlier
than the beatification
but we still got a blessing.

SHRINE TO BLESSED JOHN PAUL II

Shrine dedicated to Blessed Pope John Paul II

PRAYER FOR THE INTERCESSION
OF POPE JOHN PAUL II
O Holy Trinity, we thank you for having given to the Church,
Pope John Paul II, and for having made him shine
with your fatherly tenderness, the glory of the Cross of Christ
and the splendour of the Spirit of love
He, trusting completely in your infinite mercy
and in the maternal intercession of Mary,
has shown himself in the likeness of Jesus the Good Shepherd
and has pointed out to us holiness as the path
to reach eternal communion with You.
Grant us, through his intercession, according to your will,
the grace that we implore, in the hope that
he will soon be numbered among your saints.   Amen.

Our group arrived at the gate of BTPI (Bataan Technology Park, Inc.  without reservation but the guards and the staff were very accommodating to let us in despite that they were busy with preparations for the shrine dedication.  There was even a guide to show us around.  Thanks, Kuya!

Serendipity maybe, the Parish Priest was even there the same time that we were and kindly invited us to the dedication.

RUINS OF WHAT I BELIEVE IS A PRAYER GROUND
OF THE VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE
AWAITING PASSES TO ELSEWHERE

I hope to know how this translates to English

How many cries have your stone ears heard?
How much tears were shed to wash your feet?
How many hopes were born in your altar?
Now that the journeymen have trekked on
Praises be! ... but why are you there to sit alone?

The image of a mother may be unique to each journeyman
but as universal as the air you and I breath

CHURCH AT MORONG TOWN

KANAWAN BRIDGE
The height of summer dries out most of the foliage.

Whoever fooled me to doing this pose?  Grrrr!  See the my shadow?  Yep!  It is the height of the noontime sun.  Whew!

Lea battling the steep climb

We had hoped to go to the Pawikan (Sea Turtle) Sanctuary but were told that the best time to go would be November when the turtles visit shore to lay their precious eggs.

The ticket seller at Victory Liner Terminal (Cubao) misdirected us.  Thanks to her, we got off in Dinalupihan and took the roundabout way to Morong where we enjoyed the trip viewing the Dambana ng Kagitingan on top of Mt. Samat and the Philippine-Japan Friendship Bell Tower in Bagac.  Dotting the roadside are kilometer markers of the infamous Death March.  It gave me the creeps just realizing how far the march was...  Kudos to our hero marchers!

Direct trip from Manila to Morong and vice versa is via Subic.  From Cubao, take a bus (we took Victory which was quite comfortable) to Olongapo.  From the terminal you have to walk a little to ride the yellow jeep which will take you to jeepney terminal en route to Morong.  It is just a short trip but you have to be patient as the driver and conductor pack the jeep with cargo and people.  They even have this makeshift bench that they put in the middle of the jeep.  Remember, this is the Philippines in the countryside, folks!  You may get off at the Morong Terminal and get a tricycle ride to your destination.

In our case, we stayed at Pamarta Bali Beach Resort and were were not disappointed.  Read on my Pamarta Bali Post.
